Packing up for our new nomadic family lifestyle was no easy task. We actually began three years before we left. Back then, we started going through the house and saying "do we really need this?" "are we going to store it until we get back?" and out it went. We got the kids involved, and intentionally, months before departure, got us all used to living on a lot less stuff
Living On Half
we really are. we've given away or packed up half of our stuff. half of the towels, sheets, and clothing.half of the pots and plates.half of the toys and books.half of everything really.
half is good.half is really good.the house is breathing.not stuffed with clutter.easy to clean.easy to organize.and, it makes me think....if we can happily (very happily) live on half of what we own,
why do we need the other half?why does my house have to be stuffed with too much wealth, too much stuff, too much clutter.
Maybe when we come back, we'll stay on half as a nomadic family should?
When Kids Pack
This weekend. Woah. It was touching. My kids each grabbed a box and started packing what is most precious to them.
Dahnya started
carefully arranging her most beloved stuffed animals one next to the
other wrapped in pillow covers and favorite clothing. She doesn't want
them to be lonely or sad when she's gone so she's making them be next to
friends and very, very comfortable. She put her piggy bank in there,
some art work, and her bracelets.
Solai
took a huge box, put in her favorite big white teddy bear, her puffy
skirt from Grandma Batya, and a birthday card from a friend. She started
to tape the box shut with boxing tape. We convinced her to consider
putting more things in the box.
Orazi
placed into his box his dinosaurs, his gogo's collection, some trophies
he made at school, some art work he's proud of, and pictures off his
wall.
Oh, my heart melted to see them so....
