Volunteering in the rural school of La Lucha de la Tigra, Costa Rica
changed our lives. We were welcomed and loved whole-heartedly by an
entire community. We spent whole days in the school, after schools at
friends' houses, and many weekends with overnight company, mostly Ever.
Our kids marched into classrooms in which neither the teacher nor the
students could speak a word they could understand. As an ad hoc English
teacher on the road
throughout Latin America, the rewards of teaching has ALWAYS been
watching my kids gain friends from it.
Days of the Week Song
Ok, so you caught me red handed. Yes, I totally made up the song, but,
really, it helped them learn it. Those names are really long and hard to
pronounce.
Our nomadic family of five is traveling the world on a budget of $1200 a month. We dumped our (really lovely) modern lives in Northern Israel and dare to live with no boss, no mortgage payments, no hectic routines. Today, we decide how to spend our precious time on earth- exploring, volunteering, getting in shape, bonding our family, and discovering ourselves.
For us, being a nomadic family means living out our dreams today, not 'some day'. It also means facing who we are, what we really believe in, and figuring out how to be 'in our voice' also as we travel; how to balance internet and a plug-free life; how we invest in our family and find those precious spaces for ourselves.
Thanks for joining us in that field. I'll save a place for you (and Rumi) on the grass. (clueless which field, I'll send you my new favorite quote in an email. Just ask!)
