Benjamin Franklin was beyond wise in his untimely advise about eating right, sleeping right, and moving your body for optimal health. But my dear friend Ben probably didn't travel the world (actually he did!) and he probably didn't eat for emotional comfort (I have no idea on this one!). Ok, so screw Ben, I have no excuses here. I'm not standing up to the nutritional standards I strive to. And when I'm not beating myself up for wolfing down sugary/starchy things at night while I chug away at the keyboard; I'm actually quite proud, amazed, and fascinated by how well we have been able to bring a strongly-accented raw food diet stably into the ever-changing, every-alluring world of international travel. And so, enjoy our "apple a day"- sprouting (detailed instructional video at the end) ....
How To Sprout Even As You Travel the World
As a nomadic family, we are committed to upholding the health standards we worked so hard to build back home. In theory, that sounds great. In reality, eating a mainly raw food diet on the road is just not working. There are too many temptations, too much change in our world to stick to the dietary routine our health most thrives on.
We are managing to eat a salad or two per day as a meal. We are managing to eat usually an entire head of garlic a day in those salads. And, finally, here, in Northern Panama; we have started sprouting again.
In Israel, when we faced some health issues,we turned to a primarily raw food diet and saw miraculous health improvements. Sprouting, part of that raw food diet, is a gift to one's health and the powerhouse of what the legume can give.
In this video, Gabi teaches you how to sprout. You will see step by step how to do this simple and healthy process. And, you will see how the Klaf kids get into the camera to steal sprouts while filming. It was unplanned and so very cool; for if the kids snack on it, we know we are doing something right in regards to our family's health.
In the coming weeks, we'll write more about our personal definitions of family health and what we're doing in a valor attempt to live according to those standards. We also share all those unexpected health issues (including our son Orazi being attacked by a poisonous worm last month and Gabi's spout of dizziness and headaches).
Any thoughts, share away! We love your comments and encouragement!

When you say, "with olive oil, garlic and salt," do you use raw garlic? Powdered? Minced? Sauteed? (We take it in all forms, but I just want to know what you're recommending here.)
Hi Paige! We use only raw garlic (and tons of it!). We know it is the least processed of them all, and we have gotten accustomed to its delicious, strong flavor. It's ALL RAW! Let me know how it goes, if you try it!
Are these ordinary lentils Gabi? Ours are orange in colour, and they are flat and small so not sure this would happen with ours :-/
