Costa Rican Shabbat

As a nomadic family, we are honored, when (once in a while) we get to share magical moments with our new friends. Here, on the ranch in La Lucha de la Tigra, Costa Rica we had so many magical sharing of cultures.

This recording shows Cintia Lula Sonia and Sonia's sister with us for the traditional Jewish Welcoming of the Shabbath. Touching. Ah... I miss our friends from the La Lucha.

This was our very first Shabbat Dinner with Costa Rican friends. I had just finished teaching the English Class to the neighborhood group and the kids got so excited that it was Friday night. Though I was soooo tired, I couldn't say no to their heart-felt desire to love and share our tradition with others.

They came to the class (in a pavilion under the house) with bread and grape juice to do the blessings. After they recited the blessings in Hebrew (and the whole class just sat there gazing in amazement and awe), they ran to set the table for guests. And together, with Cinthia, Lula, Sonia, and her sister we sang, blessed, ate, and celebrated the Shabbath.
